Backhand down the line
Bubbly
Jacob Hewitt thinks about tennis the way he thinks about poker. “You don’t control what cards you’re dealt, but you can control how you play your hand.” On court, that means reading the player across the net, finding the ball he doesn’t like, and going back to it until the match turns.
At 6'2", he has the frame to play big and take points away early. He’s just as comfortable dropping back to defend for a set, or a whole match, if that’s what it takes. The shot he trusts most is the backhand down the line.
The results back it up: a career high of No. 11 in the USTA national rankings, a Silver Ball in doubles at the USTA National Indoor Championships, and an ITF junior title. He started his college career at SMU and is looking for the right home for the spring. Off the court, it’s basketball, golf, and a good poker game.
